As we Celebrate our Mothers

As we celebrate our mothers, I can't help but notice the enthusiasm around the children. When I say children, I mean we that are now "GROWN UPS". It is pertinent to cast back our minds to when we were younger and remember some if not all what our mothers did and are still doing for us.

What is the most memorable thing or things you remember your mum for ?

Both the living mums and the ones who are dead. we should not just appreciate them as mothers but appreciate women generally. They sat and watched our INFANT heads.

Bowen Students RIOT (ALUTA spirit )

There is news of Riot in Bowen University [Picture inside]. Bowen University students have displayed their "ALUTA SPIRIT" and that they are no longer students of "Glorified secondary school". There was a somewhat violent protest by the students this evening in response to some unfavourable rules laid down by the new Vice Chancellor.

From a source, we gathered that there was a hike in school fees, meal time was fixed, students were asked to be taking their coolers to the cafeteria, all students were asked to leave the dormitories by 6am and not return until 4pm even if they don't have lectures among other rules that could inconvenience the students.

Seems they are tired of being called ADVANCED SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS.....

Fire Guts Christ Embassy Church In Lagos

Christ Embassy Church International located on Billings Way in Oregun area of Lagos was on Tuesday gutted by fire, throwing the entire metropolis in a state of pandemonium.

Our correspondent gathered that the fire which started at about 4 pm as a result of power surge from one of the generating sets in the church's power house led to multiple explosion of the giant electricity generators used to power the massive church.

The raging fire which consumed the church auditorium left a fire serviceman with the Lagos State Fire Service seriously injured.

LEADERSHIP observed that the incident caused terrible traffic gridlock on Billings Way and Oregun road, even as fire servicemen battled to put out the fire.

According to the director of Lagos State Fire Service, Mr. Rasaq Fadipe, the fire incident started around 4pm as a result of power surge from one of the generating sets in the church's power house.

He said about 14 generating sets were destroyed, as well as an auditorium.

"It was a very serious fire outbreak. The fire involved the generator house. And a lot of armoured cables were also affected by the inferno.

"They have about 14 big generators that were affected as well as the church's stationary diesel and petrol tanks.

"However, with the effort of the fire servicemen, we didn't allow the tanks to burst. And we also prevented the fire from spreading to the âir conditioner house. But, one of the servicemen sustained injury," he added.

House of Reps summons Interior minister, NIS boss

House of Reps summons Interior minister, NIS boss

Minister of Interior, Abba Moro

The House of Representatives on Tuesday summoned the Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro; and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mr. Shikfu Parradang, to explain the death of 21 Nigerians on Saturday in their bid to be enlisted into the NIS.
The victims, among them three pregnant women, met their death during stampedes at the various crowded venues of the NIS screening.
Moro and the CG are to appear before the Joint Committee on Labour, Employment, Productivity/Justice/Public Service Matters, which will conduct a public hearing on the tragedy.
The hearing will be concluded within two weeks.
The House also resolved that the Federal Government should identify relations of the dead victims and offer “automatic employment” to them.
The decisions of the House followed a motion by a member from Kogi State, Mr. Sunday Karibi.
He told the House that the Ministry of Interior and the NIS collected N1, 000 each from “over one million youths” as administrative fee for only 4,500 vacancies.
Karibi added that the painful aspect was that some of the victims survived road accidents to get to the venues only to lose their lives.
He blamed the deaths on the “poor arrangements” made by the NIS and the ministry.
The lawmakers said, “In the end, only 20 per cent of the candidates could take the test because of the poor arrangements at the venues. Twenty-one Nigerians, including three pregnant women, lost their lives.
“The NIS realised about N1bn from the sale of forms. Why could they not organise a proper test for them?
“We must condemn this exercise unequivocally and commiserate with the families of the victims.”

"What CAN'T Chris Okagbue aka Qhriso do?"

Talk about versatility. First, he took on modeling at just 17 and quickly became a force to reckon with in the modeling industry. Then, to everyone's surprise, he beat 29 other contestants, conquered the jungles of Ososo in Edo State and emerged the winner of Gulder Ultimate Search Season 8.

Then, he hit the studios working with top producers and recording songs that I'm sure would literally drop our jaws when they hit the air waves.
Next was acting. The University of Lagos product has featured in a number of movies and soap operas, the height for the moment being his current role as the strong-headed Emil Haruna on Africa's most watched soap opera, Tinsel.
And then he moved on to production with his first produced film titled "Lotanna" hitting cinemas anytime soon.

And now, this? Whoever thought he could dance too? I think it's time to ask ourselves this question; "What CAN'T Chris Okagbue aka Qhriso do? While you do that, check out his dance cover of Chris Brown Ft. Nicki Minaj "Love More" with @sbrizzy from Extigate Ent. (choreographer) and @sammieyellowe from Soul Quest.  https://t.co/3tZryTXa3Y

DEATHS RECORDED IN NIGERIAN IMMIGRATION TESTS

Confusion Mars Immigration Recruitment In FCT

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment in the FCT on Saturday was marred with confusion.
The Abuja National Stadium, venue of the exercise, was filled to capacity as early as 6 a.m. with applicants waiting to write the examination, scheduled for 4p.m.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the applicants, estimated at 67,000, mostly stood in and outside the stadium in anticipation of the commencement of the examination.
NAN correspondents, who were at the venue, report that the overwhelming crowd prevented the immigration officials from carrying out the screening that was supposed to have started at 7 a.m.
An official of the immigration service, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that in the FCT, no fewer than 67, 000 applicants would participate in the exercise.
She said that the screening could not commence at about 11 a.m. because the applicants were just too many to be organised for the exercise.
She added that although the crowd was overwhelming, the NIS officials made efforts to conduct the exercise in an orderly manner.
Deaths were also recorded in Rivers and Niger State.

"Getting Married in my country Part 3" Inter-Tribal WAR.

"Next Year , I would Love to Marry, So before Then, I want to Thoroughly Party." I sang this song by 2face Last year . I am singing it this year again.

Hmmm, where do I start from? The inter-tribal wars in marriages in my country is alarming and unbelievable considering the fact that some of our parents are "EDUCATED". So are we to conclude that school didn't pass through them? Or they just refused to cut us some slack? Or they do all they do for selfish reasons? Who knows the heart of Man?
I have made myself clear to my folks that I am not necessarily going to marry from my tribe. Yes! I might, depends on where my heart leads to, be it Edo,Igbo, Hausa, fulani, Jamaican,Indian, American,British, South African, one thing is for sure, my parents won't choose for me. Now let's go straight into the matter.

My friend Chi Chi (Not real name) and I were discussing innocently after she used my picture as her Dp on her bbm. So a friend of hers who happens to be an Igbo girl said I looked cool, I blushed and was interested in knowing that friend INNOCENTLY. She told me her friend wasn't looking for a boyfriend that she was looking for a husband. In my mind , I was like "LOBATAN" (meaning it is finished). First, is it not a boyfriend that would become a Fiance , and then a husband, I asked? Chi Chi still kept saying if I was sure that I should seek my parent's consent before starting up because am YORUBA. I could not believe what I was hearing . So my response was what brought about her opening up some issues to me and granting me permission to put them into a piece on this blog.

Chi said she was in a delima. Her parents who are Igbo don't want her to marry a YORUBA guy she has been dating for 8 (Eight) YEARS!!!!!!!. Yes , Eight Solid Years of Building. Read her Lamentations;
"He wants to do introduction but my parents keep saying I should better ask him not to come. Because they don't want inter-tribal marriage. Am so confused, they said they won't bless the marriage. Because I have been having Igbo Suitors, and very rich ones at that, but I am not after the money, I want peace, love and understanding . So they are asking me why I can't go for them. They knew next to nothing about my YORUBA boyfriend because we never brought our boyfriends home. My parents are so strict about that. So it was last year wen two serious suitors came and I told them I have someone already, that they got the shocker. They were in disbelief , especially my dad, the shock on his face was boldly written. My sisters, cousins and all members knew him, I mean my Yoruba boyfriend. Mom somehow knew him but she gave it no thought I would insist on marrying him. Whenever I remember all this, I cry because am scared of the future without my boyfriend of eight years. Now a certain igbo guy I tried to get on with wants to marry me, but he's extremely rigid and strong headed(hope the Guys are reading? Be Flexible). He always want things done his way. He has three kids From two different ladies And he doesn't want to marry them. One white lady and one Nigerian lady. For me to tell you all this now is because am beginning to get over it. Though my boyfriend doesn't know there ïs some Igbo guy on my case now, even though I told him about all the suitors.

The igbo guy with three kids has lots of female friends around him(Guys reduce female friends. Am also guilty here). For Me, I don't like competition and I don't care about his money because I fend for myself. He showed me the messages of those that say they want to marry him. But it didn't sway me. See what women would do for money. I must confess, I was beginning to like him but he's too full of himself and he's so proud. I had a rethink . I have prayed and fasted. I even went as far as putting their names to God and insert their names in my bible. I need a sign from GOD. Everyday I pray "Dear Lord hear me out, listen to my heart and answer my prayers."
Its alright Chi, there must be a way around all this (I replied to her, in a bid to bring her to calm as we closed discussion for the day).
Reviewing Chi's story and placing it side by side with others I've heard of, what readily comes to mind is the question; "What exactly is/are the fear of our parents in inter-tribal marrige?" Does any one know, has anyone been told? For the sake of those whose parents have given no reason (tenable or flimpsy), let someone share!

To think its a battle against inter-tribal marriage alone, is to be myopic. There is a even fiercer battle, a bigger hurdle to crosss in the inter-state version of this. It sounds funny does it not? To think that even people from the same tribes still have restrictions on which state to or not to marry from.
Like the DNA matching of A-T, G-C (appologies to my non-biological science oriented readers), there seem to be an already existing template our parents encourage or in most cases compel us to follow.
Perhaps you've heard talks like; An Ondo vs Ijebu marriage is never successful, Oyo vs Ilorin, Ibadan vs Ekiti, bla bla bla....!
I speak citing examples from the South-Western Nigeria, but this malaise continues to exist in other parts of the country too (Feel free to drop the ones you know or have heard of, as comments after this piece).

Oh, I don't want to go into the reasons behind all these 'Matches', they are so funny, so superficial, as funny as saying; Ladies from.......don't stay in their husband's house, Guys from ...... are so fettish, their wives and kids are often preys, Ladies from .......end up running away with their kids, leaving their husbands in the blue, While guys from ........are so promiscuos they'll always have a chain of concubines.
And am like; What!!! Every tribe seems to have a clause, now Where do we marry from?????
Part 4 drops soon .....
Please kindly drop your advise/warning/observation/comment

D'banj's father wants him to marry

Nigerian music star, D'banj has revealed that his father isn't overjoyed about his music career.

Even though the Nigerian star enjoyed international success with his 2012 smash hit Oliver Twist and has sold over 11 million albums in his career, he revealed that his dad remains concerned that a career in music isn't sustainable.

"Don't do music' is what my father told me," D'banj told The Voice.

"Even now, he says to me: 'Are you sure this music thing is right for you?"

When asked what career path his father would have preferred for him, D'banj, who released his first hit Tongolo in 2004, said: "Any other thing apart from music! My father is so quiet and reserved, whereas music puts you right out there. "He knows that fame can destroy things and he worries about me sustaining success."

He also says: "When I was your age, I was married and I already had you! When are you going to settle down?''

Still, the singer-songwriter says that settling down isn't part of his immediate plan. "I think I want to get a Grammy first! But if an angel should pass, I might just be distracted!"

Fresh Fuel Scarcity Looms As NNPC Depots Run Out Of Stock

Another round of scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) looms in the country as over 800 fuel tankers are currently stranded in Lagos due to unavailability of the product in Apapa depots.

The public relations officer of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association, South-West Zone, Comrade Tayo Aboyeji, revealed this to journalists yesterday while commenting on the large influx of tankers along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

He emphasised that over 800 tankers were stranded at Apapa depots, just as the influx of more fuel tankers has continued to cause traffic obstruction in Apapa axis despite the presence of the special taskforce comprising men of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

He lamented that due to the lack of the product at the depots in Apapa, tanker drivers numbering over 800 had remained at a spot for about two days now, worsening the growing static queue in Apapa area and environs.

He said, "The information reaching us is that there is no more product to dispense at the depots. The only depot still discharging is Capitol Oil which also in any moment will be out of stock.

"This can lead to another scarcity of the product in the next few days if the product is not available soonest.

"Some of the tanker drivers are also on hunger strike as most of them who arrived about five days ago waiting to load had been out of cash to feed and are now begging for food in Lagos as they did not expect to spend up to two days."

Aboyeji said the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) had not come out with the actual truth on the current situation of PMS.

"NNPC has been issuing out tickets to dealers to come to Lagos to load even with the fact that the product is not enough to go round. Now, without any parking space provided, our members are stranded and will have to wait for the next consignment to arrive and load before going back to their various destinations.

"That is why you see the large number still increasing day by day. If the product had been enough to load, all these tankers you are seeing would have reduced drastically," he said.

Nigerians to own houses with N1.5 million

Low and middle income earners who are interested in having their own homes can now do so with N1.5m, the Federal Housing Authority has said.

According to the agency, interested Nigerians can have homes delivered to them based on their financial capabilities.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, FHA, Mr. Terver Gemade, explained that the development was aimed at bridging the 17 million housing units' gap in Nigeria.

He spoke on the sidelines of the handing over of the affairs of the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development to Mrs. Akon Eyakenyi in Abuja on Monday.

Gemade said, "We are targeting the middle income earners this time around and we want to ensure that even low income earners can own their homes.  We are going to be specific in our target to ensure that the homes are affordable, decent, durable and sustainable.

"Of course, home ownership will be assured by biometrics. We will ensure that we get your biodata and it will be one thumb-print to one house. Since we are encouraging home ownership, it does not matter whether a big man brings his villagers to come and thumb print because at the end, the villagers will own homes.

"We will make the houses as low as N1.5m, N2m, N3m, N4m and upwards. The N1.5m is for the studio house; what you call the self-contained; and I can assure you that I can give you that for N1.5m."

Gemade said the FHA was looking forward to developing large expanses of land in towns across the country, adding that the pilot scheme had commenced in Abuja.

He said, "This is to ensure home ownership to Nigerians and this will be replicated in major cities across the country. There has been so much pressure on infrastructure in most places in the country.

"Therefore, you need to develop new towns where you can relieve the older towns the pressure on their infrastructure. And the new towns will be sensible, more decent, accommodating and peaceful for the existence of mankind."

On the payment plan, the FHA boss said the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria was set to give out mortgages to interested persons

He added, "You will recall that the primary mortgage banks recapitalised last December and we have many of such banks now that have enough liquidity to give as mortgage. Also, remember that the Nigeria Mortgage Refinancing Company has been inaugurated and the FMBN is also doing its own by providing an e-card.

"The e-card helps you to know how much you have contributed over the years so as to take advantage of the development."

Earlier in her address, Eyakenyi stated that she would ensure that the housing deficit in the country was tackled headlong.

"We will deploy all government resources that we have to bridge the housing gap," she said.

Search for Malaysian Plane

The search is continuing for a Malaysia Airlines plane that has been missing for more than 24 hours.

Marine rescue teams worked through the night to search the sea south of Vietnam, while the aerial mission resumed on Sunday morning.

Flight MH370 disappeared en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur, with 239 people on board.

At a news briefing in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday morning, officials said there had been no sign of any wreckage.

"The rescue operations continue... and we have to report that we have not been able to locate anything," said Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, a representative of Malaysia's civil aviation authority.

"There is nothing to report at this juncture."

The passengers were of 14 different nationalities. Two-thirds were from China, while others were from elsewhere in Asia, North America and Europe.

'Pray for flight'

It has been reported that two passengers who were listed on the plane's manifest - an Italian and an Austrian - were not actually on the flight.

They both reportedly had their passports stolen in Thailand years ago.

There has been intense media coverage in Beijing, angering some of the relatives

Friends and relatives expecting to meet passengers from the flight in Beijing were taken to a nearby hotel

The US Navy is sending the USS Pinckney, seen here in San Diego Bay, to help with the search
Asked whether terrorism was suspected as a reason for the plane's disappearance, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said: "We are looking at all possibilities, but it is too early to make any conclusive remarks."

In a statement, the airline urged "all Malaysians and people around the world to pray for flight MH370".

The plane vanished at 17:30 GMT Friday (01:30 local time Saturday).

It reportedly went off the radar south of Vietnam.

According to Malaysian Airlines, it last had contact with air traffic controllers 120 nautical miles off the east coast of the Malaysian town of Kota Bharu.

Distraught relatives and loved ones of those on board are being given assistance at both the arrival and departure airports.

Many have expressed anger at the lack of information.

"They should have told us something before now," a visibly distressed man in his thirties told AFP news agency at a hotel in Beijing where relatives are waiting.

In Kuala Lumpur, Hamid Ramlan, a 56-year-old police officer, said his daughter and son-in-law had been on the flight for an intended holiday in Beijing.

"My wife is crying," he said. "Everyone is sad. My house has become a place of mourning. This is Allah's will. We have to accept it."

'Unity of efforts'

The aerial search was suspended overnight but resumed on Sunday morning.

Malaysia and Vietnam have both sent planes and naval vessels to look for the missing flight.

The US is sending the USS Pinckney, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, which could be in the area within 24 hours.

Territorial disputes over the South China Sea were set aside temporarily as China dispatched two maritime rescue ships and the Philippines deployed three air force planes and three navy patrol ships.

Singapore is also involved, while Vietnam sent aircraft and ships and asked fishermen in the area to report any suspected sign of the missing plane.

"In times of emergencies like this, we have to show unity of efforts that transcends boundaries and issues," said Lt Gen Roy Deveraturda, commander of the Philippine military's Western Command.

Texas firm Freescale Semiconductor says 20 of its Malaysian and Chinese employees were on the flight, according to a statement on its website.

Vietnam's air force earlier said it had spotted two possible oil slicks 190km (118 miles) from Malaysia, but there is no confirmation they are connected with the plane's disappearance.

Malaysia's national carrier is one of Asia's largest, flying nearly 37,000 passengers daily to some 80 destinations worldwide.

The route between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing has become more and more popular as Malaysia and China increase trade, says the BBC's Jennifer Pak in Kuala Lumpur.

The Boeing 777 had not had a fatal crash in its 20-year history until an Asiana plane came down at San Francisco airport in July of last year.

Three teenage girls from China died in that incident.

Aviation expert David Learmount told the BBC that passenger planes today "are incredibly reliable and you do not get some sudden structural failure in flight - it just doesn't happen".

Nigerian Guy Buys Lady he's Still Wooing Property Worth £1.6 million

This is serious love ooo. guys. *winks*
Men are something else, especially the very liquid ones. The likes of .......... who wouldn't mind doing  whatever once they are in love.
According to Maestro Media, there's this dude that has money like the Atlantic ocean. His kind of colossal wealth is the kind that would help many nations and he would still be quite comfortable and he is proudly Nigerian.
Imagine that just to woo a girl he likes, and he has not even had anything to do with at all, he gave the lucky lady love to the tune of £1.6 million Pounds in property. What wouldn't she now get by the time things have gone far? Some babes sure are very lucky. What is it that they 'put' on that makes men giddy up and just go totally gaga?
A little description of this extraordinary gentleman, who is spending money like a drunken sailor - He is not too fine and he is based in Nigeria and is into o......................  He is highly connected and some even say he is the front for..........
MONEY !!!!!!!!!! make this man no spoil market for us YOUNG men ooooooo..........
