British Olympian Mo Farah collapses at New York half-marathon
British double Olympic champion Mo Farah has collapsed shortly after crossing the finish line at the New York City half-marathon. Farah fell to the floor on Sunday moments after finishing second to Kenya's Geoffrey
Mutai. His wife Tania and runner Stephen Sambu of Kenya rushed to support him as he lay metres away from the finish line.
He was taken away from the finish area in a wheelchair.
The athlete has now taken to Twitter to reassure concerned fans.
He wrote: "Hi guys... I'm doing ok... thanks for the concern... disappointed with today... I gave 110%... couldn't do any more... sorry guys...."
The 30-year-old, who won the same marathon in 2011, had suffered a painful fall earlier in the race.
The Briton hit the ground roughly five miles in after he was tripped from behind.
Despite picking himself up, he failed to recover enough to overtake winner Geoffrey Mutai.
His final time was 61 minutes, 15 seconds - 18 seconds behind Mutai.
Farah shot to fame after taking home the 5,000m and 10,000m golds at the London 2012 Olympics.
He became known for his trademark celebration pose, the Mobot.
